As the Dhaka Metro Rail timing changes, its weekly closure would also change from Tuesday to Friday starting from May 31.
The announcement was made by MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), on Thursday.
Explaining the rationale behind the day off change, Siddique mentioned that the metro rail currently undergoes major maintenance, requiring a complete shutdown for a day. To accommodate this, the weekly holiday has been shifted to Friday after discussions with commuters.
Additionally, the Dhaka Metro Rail will run for 12 hours from 8am to 8pm six days a week from May 31.
Currently, the metro rail is operating from 8am to 2pm.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that metro rail services will also be suspended during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.
These adjustments aim to improve the efficiency and convenience of Dhaka's metro rail system, ensuring a smooth and reliable commuting experience for passengers, said the DMTC managing director.
