A case has been lodged against at least 175 people, citing the names of 25 individuals, including pro-BNP barristers Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Ruhul Quddus Kajol, in connection with the vandalism of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) secretary's office and the alleged attack on pro-Awami League lawyers.
Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Mohammad confirmed the matter on Wednesday, stating that SCBA Assistant Superintendent Md Rafique Ullah filed the case on Tuesday night.
In addition to the named defendants, the case included accusations against a further 100 to 150 unidentified individuals, stated the officer.
He further highlighted that the case documents also allege that a female lawyer was subjected to harassment and sexual assault by the defendants.
Earlier on Tuesday, pro-BNP lawyers held a procession on the Supreme Court Bar Association premises to protest the "unilateral" SCBA elections held on March 15-16.
According to witnesses, pro-Awami League lawyers also congregated at the same location, resulting in a clash between the two sides that led to the vandalism of the SCBA secretary's office.
Both sides claimed that several lawyers were injured during the clash.
The Supreme Court Bar Association election took place amid chaos, attacks, vandalism, assaults on journalists, and scuffles.
The pro-Awami League panel won all 14 posts in the election. Pro-BNP lawyers abstained from voting in the election and have been protesting ever since.
