The police have initiated an operation to nab Major (Retd) Abdul Jalil in connection with a case filed on Wednesday over the murder of Colonel Khandkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikram 48 years ago.
Naheed Ezahar Khan MP, daughter of late Col Huda, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, accusing Major (Retd) Abdul Jalil of then 10 East Bengal Regiment and 20-25 unidentified people. She also mentioned the name of BNP founder General Ziaur Rahman as the mastermind for giving the order to kill him in her First Information Report (FIR).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam on Thursday set June 12 for the submission of the probe report in the case.
Police say they have started raiding different areas of the capital, including Mirpur, and the village home of Maj (Retd) Jalil.
According to the FIR, the plaintiff mentioned that her father was killed by the members of the Bangladesh Army on parliament premises in Dhaka between 4am and 8am while serving as Commander of the 72 Special Brigade in Rangpur.
“I also learned that Major (Retd) Mohammad Asaduzzaman along with the 10 East Bengal Regiment officers, JCOs and soldiers charged bayonets at the three army officers to confirm their deaths,” she said.
Two sector commanders -- Major General Khaled Mosharraf Bir Uttam and Lt Col ATM Haider Bir Uttam -- were also killed during the incident, she added.
On March 26, 1971, Col Nazmul Huda joined the Liberation War. He was the Boyra sub-sector commander under Sector 8 in Jessore. The Pakistan Army was defeated in the famous Tank Battle of Garibpur and the Battle of Chowagacha under his direct command.
