The Bogra Science and Technology University is set to open soon as per the law enacted 22 years ago.
The government has published a gazette declaring the existing law effective from May 22.
As a result of the implementation of the law, the university can now admit students in the current academic year.
This information was revealed in a notification signed by the Deputy Secretary Rokhchana Begum.
The notification was published in the gazette on Monday.
According to the announcement, the Bogra University of Science and Technology Act of 2001, Section 1, Subsection 2, sets the date of the Act's implementation as May 22, 2023.
In that section, it is stated that the act would go into effect on the date set by government notification.
It should be noted that the current Awami League government passed the Science and Technology University Act in Bogra at the end of 2001.
However, after the change of power in the 2001 elections, the university was no longer operational. Even after Awami League came to power in 2009, no initiative was taken to launch it.
However, an initiative was taken to make a new law in 2020 to set up the Bogra Science and Technology University by bypassing the old law.
In January 2020, the Cabinet also gave its nod to the draft Bogra Science and Technology University Act 2020. However, the law was not implemented after that. The government is now going to implement the 2001 Act and open the university.
