A truck driver has been arrested in a case filed over raping a 10-year-child in the airport area of Sylhet.
Confirming the news on Wednesday, RAB-10 Commander Mohammed Farid Uddin said Roushan Ali Bepari was arrested on Tuesday afternoon from the Shyampur area in Dhaka.
The truck was also seized at the time.
During primary interrogation, Roushan Ali Bepari said he often drove past the child's house.
Spotting the child alone on the street one day, he lured her with chocolate and over the next few days, he continued to observe her activities, enticing her with chocolates and biscuits.
According to RAB, on the morning of August 2 last year, the child went to the washroom behind her house. At the same time, Roushan Ali, who was nearby, attracted her with various enticements.
Subsequently, he managed to get her into his truck and took her to a secluded street near the airport. There, intimidating her, he attempted to rape her inside the truck.
When the child screamed, Roushan Ali raped her, muffling her cries. At one point, the child passed out.
When she regained consciousness, Roushan Ali gave her biscuits and other items, helped her out of the truck, and quickly fled the scene.
RAB said Roushan Ali Bepari will be handed over to the relevant police station.
