A leader of Swechchhasebak League, the volunteer wing of the ruling Awami League, has been hacked to death in the Malgram area of Bogra.
Nahid Hossain, 30, organizing secretary of the proposed committee for the organization's Bogra city unit, was killed on Tuesday night.
Bogra Sadar police station OC Nure Alam Siddiki said the police were unsure about the cause of the murder and those responsible for it, but locals claimed that Robin, a member of the same organization, and his associates had killed Nahid over a prior conflict.
Locals residents said Nahid and his friends were hanging out when Robin and others, armed with locally made sharp weapons, attacked him before fleeing the area.
Nahid was rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Nasimul Bari, general secretary of Swechchhasebak League's Bogra city unit, said he had heard that “Robin and his associates took part in the killing” but could not say why.
Meanwhile, Zulfikar Rahman Shanto, general secretary of the organization's district chapter, condemned the incident and demanded the perpetrators be arrested immediately and brought to justice.
