Paying glowing tribute to eminent nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said Dr Wazed Miah was an introvert, greedless, modest and inimitable personality and played an outstanding contribution to the country.
"Dr Wazed Miah never used the identity of the prime minister's husband. Even he didn't identify himself as the son-in-law of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. There was no way to understand these identities with his modest behaviour," he said.
The minister told reporters while exchanging views with reporters marking the 14th death anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband eminent nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah at the official residence of the minister in Dhaka's Minto Road.
CollectedHasan said Dr Wazed Miah was the chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and he played a pivotal role in the development of the commission. He had also played an important role in realizing the necessity of Construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, he added.
He said Dr Wazed Miah became a victim of mistreatment after the arrest of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina in 2007 and he felt sick. And later he died on May 9, 2009, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
The minister said Dr Wazed Miah wrote many books and he will ever be remembered for his works, wisdom and contribution to the country.
He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul of the eminent scientist.
Replying to a query over a comment of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the minister said: "Mirza Fakhrul claimed that he doesn't believe Awami Leauge general secretary's statement. But the countrymen think that Mirza Fakhrul always tells lies. And this is the reality. It is regrettably true that he can lie gracefully," he added.
Hasan said: "Our party general secretary said that we want the participation of all political parties including BNP in the next polls. And in this context, he talked about the election period of the government. The general secretary of our party said about our willingness. It is normal that the statement of our party's general secretary would not be audible to those who don't want elections and are afraid of polls."
"We want the participation of all political parties including BNP in the next polls," he added.
