A 12-member team from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has arrived in Chittagong to investigate the increasing number of diarrhoea cases in the area.
The team reached Chittagong on Sunday night.
Confirming the matter on Monday, Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Office Health Coordinator Sujan Barua said a team has arrived in Chittagong, formed jointly by IEDCR and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).
“They have started fieldwork today to determine the cause of the increase in diarrhoea cases and met with district Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilyas Chowdhury,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Mohammad Ilyas Chowdhury sent a letter to the IEDCR due to the rise in diarrhoea outbreaks on Friday.
The letter requested an investigation into the causes of diarrhoea in Chittagong and the necessary measures to be taken.
Subsequently, IEDCR Director Professor Dr Tahmina Shirin signed a letter on Saturday, instructing the formation of a 12-member team to investigate the reason for the increase in diarrhoea patients in Chittagong.
The letter instructed submitting a report within three days after completing the investigation process.
The investigative team was formed with IEDCR Medical Officer Dr Md Jahidur Rahman as team supervisor and Dr Imamul Muntasir as the chief.
Meanwhile, information received from the Chittagong civil surgeon's office on Monday revealed that 291 people had been admitted to 14 health complexes with diarrhoea in the last 24 hours.
