Antara Selima Huda, daughter of late BNP leader and minister Barrister Nazmul Huda, has been selected as the acting chairman of Trinamool BNP.
She was announced as the acting chairman at a press conference in Dhaka's Gulshan on Saturday.
Nazmul Huda's wife Barrister Sigma Huda was also present.
After being elected, Antara Selima Huda said: I respectfully recall Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred president Ziaur Rahman. I am recalling all the martyrs of the Liberation War, also the family members of the martyred freedom fighters.”
“Everyone is aware that my father Barrister Nazmul Huda, founder and founding chairman of Trinamool BNP, passed away on February 19. My father has always worked for the people of the country in his illustrious political career of 50 years,” she noted.
The newly elected chairman of the party also said that her father has always been criticized by various political circles for speaking the simple truth.
“But my father's way of speaking the truth has always gained praise from the public. I accept this responsibility to fulfill my father's dream and unfinished business,” she added.
According to party sources, the new acting chairman post was filled according to the decision of an emergency meeting held on March 22 and a general meeting held on May 5.
Former BNP leader and ex-minister Barrister Nazmul Huda died at a private hospital in Dhaka on February 19.
In 2012, Nazmul Huda resigned from the BNP and formed a new party named the BNF. He was expelled later from the party before the 2014 national election.
In November 2015, Huda formed another new political party named Trinamool BNP, which had recently got registered with the Election Commission as a political party following a court order.
