The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against dismissed Bangladesh Army Colonel Shahid Uddin Khan, his wife and two daughters in a case filed on charges of accumulating illegal wealth worth around Tk40 crore.
Nazmul Hossain, deputy director of the commission, will submit the charge sheet to the relevant court.
Confirming the matter to reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday, ACC Secretary Mahbub Hossain said that ACC officials found details of his and his family's moveable and immovable properties worth around Tk40 crore.
The other accused are his wife Farzana Anjum Khan, and their two daughters Shewtaz Munasi Khan and Barisha Pinaj Khan.
According to the case statement, the commission found his illegal assets including a flat in Dhaka's Baridhara area, Tk26 crore in fixed deposits with FAS Finance and Investment Limited, Tk5 crore in deposits with Eastern Bank and shares of different companies.
Out of the Tk40 crore, Shahid Uddin illegally amassed Tk2.1 crore; he and his wife and two daughters jointly amassed Tk26 crore; Shahid and his wife Tk4.24 crore, Farzana Tk4.59 crore; Shewtaz Tk1.65 crore; and Barisha Tk40.97 lakh, according to the ACC's report.
After finding evidence of illegal wealth information, the commission on August 16, 2020 issued a notice to Shahid for submitting his wealth statement.
But the accused failed to submit his wealth statement within the stipulated period.
Where is Shahid now?
According to media reports, last year, Shahid appeared in various talk shows on social media platforms from abroad and criticized the government heavily.
The media also reported that Shahid Uddin Khan is currently in self-exile in the United Kingdom.
The commission, however, could not provide information on when it would be possible to bring him back to the country.
On January 15, 2019, police raided Shahid's house in Dhaka's cantonment area and recovered two pistols, six cartridges, two shotguns and counterfeit money with a face value of Tk3 lakh.
Later, on November 10, 2020, four individuals, including Shahid and his wife Farzana, were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in an arms case.
In the same year, on December 10, the court sentenced Shahid Uddin Khan to nine years imprisonment in the case of income tax evasion of Tk17.6 crore.
