A gold merchant was abducted from Nawabganj of Dhaka under the identity of police and robbed of 150 bhori gold and Tk2.5 lakh and left with hands and feet tied in Manikganj's Singair upazila.
Police rescued the gold trader, Krishna Saha, 55, from Changpara area of Sayesta union of Singair on Nawabganj-Sahrail road around 11:30am on Sunday.
Quoting Krishna Saha, Singair Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Irman said that on Sunday morning, Krishna Saha was going to the shop in a rickshaw with Tk2.5 lakh in cash, 150 bhori gold and 250 bhori silver.
On the way, before reaching the shop, a private car stopped the rickshaw carrying him. The passengers of the private car identified themselves as policemen and said that there was a complaint against him in the police station. Seven-eight persons inside the private car took Krishna Saha inside and handcuffed him.
After taking him in the car and looting cash and gold ornaments from him, the assailants in the police identity left him at Changpara Chowk of Sayesta union in Singair, adjacent to Nawabganj, the police officer added.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Irman said, based on the information of the locals, Krishna Saha, an injured gold trader, was rescued and handed over to Nawabganj police station.
He added that the injured trader had injury marks on his face and body in various places including his legs tied.
Krishna Saha could not be reached for comments in this regard.
In this regard, Nawabganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sirajul Islam said that currently, the gold trader is under treatment in a hospital in Dhaka.
Legal action will be taken after his treatment, the OC added.
