IGP: Police to follow directives from Election Commission in city polls

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun stated on Friday that the police are prepared to follow any directives from the Election Commission (EC) to ensure fair city corporation elections.

"Ensuring law and order during the upcoming city corporation polls will not pose a challenge for the police force and they will be prepared to face any situation," the police chief said while speaking to journalists at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.

Mentioning that police have worked in many elections before, he said Bangladesh Police have experience and training in organizing elections.

"During the election period, we will work under the Election Commission and follow the directives they provide," he added.

The IGP arrived in Sylhet Thursday night for a three-day visit before the city elections.

He is scheduled to participate in programs organized by the Sylhet district and metropolitan police on Friday and Saturday.
