7 coaches derailed, train movement stopped on two routes

The wheels of seven coaches of a freight train were derailed as the rail line curved due to excessive heat in Brahmanbaria.

The incident took place in Dariyapur area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila around 1pm on Thursday.

As a result, rail communication from Chittagong to Dhaka and Sylhet were stopped.

Rafiqul Islam, master of Brahmanbaria railway station, said that a freight train coming from Chittagong was heading towards Dhaka. When the train left Brahmanbaria railway station and reached Dariyapur area around 1pm, several wheels of seven coaches derailed. About 500 meters of railway sleepers were broken in this incident.

He said that since the incident, train movement on the Up line has been stopped. However, all types of train movement on the Down line is normal. Akhaura loco shed has been informed to rescue the train. After the rescue train arrives and completes the work, train movement on the closed line will be normal.
