19 motorcyclists fined for flouting rules on Padma Bridge

Traffic police have fined 19 motorcyclists for breaching rules on the Padma Bridge.

They were fined on various parts of the Padma Bridge from afternoon to evening on Tuesday.

Munshiganj Traffic Police Inspector (Finance and Administration) Bazlur Rahman said that 60 motorcyclists were fined Tk1,93,000 in the last four days including Tuesday.

Among them, 22 were fined Tk3,000 each and one was fined Tk5,000 for breaking the rules by changing lanes from morning to afternoon on Sunday, the day after Eid.

On Friday, the day before Eid, nine were fined Tk3,000 each.

Nine were fined Tk18,000 and 19 were fined Tk68,000, respectively, on Monday and Tuesday.

The government gave conditional permission to motorcyclists to cross the Padma Bridge ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, warning that if the conditions are not met, the movement of motorcycles on the bridge will be stopped again.

On June 27 last year, the Bridges Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges banned the plying of motorcycles on the 6.15km bridge following the death of two bikers.

The Padma Bridge was opened for traffic the day after its inauguration on June 25, 2022.
