Razzaque: Boro production to set new record

Boro paddy production will set a new record if there are no natural disasters and the harvest is brought in on time. 

Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said these recently at Haor Boro paddy-cutting festival in Sunamganj.

Noting that around 1,000 combined paddy harvesters were working only in Sunamganj, the minister hoped that there will be no problem in paddy harvesting this year, said an agriculture ministry press release on Monday.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Boro paddy was cultivated on 5,000,000  hectares of land across the country this year while the production target is 2,15,00,000 metric tonnes of rice. 

Boro paddy was cultivated on 4,814,000 hectares of land in the last fiscal year 2021-22 while 20,200,000 tonnes of rice were produced.

About 70% of Boro paddy in haor areas of the country have so far been harvested.

About 55% of Boro paddy have so far been harvested in Sylhet, 70% in Moulvibazar, 67℅ in Habiganj, 73℅ in Sunamganj, 58℅ in Kishoreganj, 77℅  in Netrokona and 67℅ of paddy was harvest in Brahmanbaria.

The Boro paddy was cultivated on 452,000 hectares of land in seven haor districts this year while the paddy was cultivated on a total of 953,000 hectares of land, including the haor areas and the highland outside of the haors, the release said, adding that the production target is 4,000,000 tonnes of rice this year.
