Bangladesh to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr Saturday

Bangladesh will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the two major festivals, on Saturday.

The moon-sighting committee confirmed the date on Friday evening after a meeting.

The meeting was presided over by State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan after Maghrib at Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram Hall.

The committee made the decision after reviewing data from all district administrations, Islamic Foundation head offices, divisional and district offices, the Meteorological Department and space research and remote sensing institutes.

"The moon of Shawwal month of 1444 Hijri was sighted today(Friday) in the skyline of the country. The holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday)," said Islamic Foundation (IF) Assistant Public Relations Officer Shayla Sharmin after the meeting of National Moon Sighting Committee, reports BSS.

The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8am on the Eid day.

The National Eidgah ground in Dhaka, the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, the Sholakia Eidgah ground in Kishoreganj and all mosques and grounds of the country are ready to hold the Eid-ul-Fitr congregations amid festivity.

Altogether five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, beginning at 7am.

President M Abdul Hamid will exchange greetings with the cross section of people at Bangabhaban here on Saturday on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival of the Muslims.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday issued guidelines for vehicular movement for the Jatiya Eidgah on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on Saturday.

The Ramna Traffic Division under the DMP issued the traffic guidelines for the people who want to join the Jatiya Eidgah on Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat.

Meanwhile, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in some upazilas of Dinajpur, Chandpur, Lalmonirhat, Tangail, Jamalpur, Kurigram, Moulvibazar, Barisal and Satkhira districts amid religious fervour in line with Saudi Arabia on Friday.

In Bangladesh, numerous Muslims celebrate Eid in sync with Saudi Arabia, maintaining a long-standing tradition across various communities in the country.

Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern countries observed Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, as the Shawwal moon was sighted on Thursday.

Millions of people have already left the capital to celebrate Eid with their families at their village homes.

Television channels and radio stations will air special programs on the occasion and the national flag will be hoisted atop government and non-government office buildings.

Special diet will be served at hospitals, jails, government-run children's homes – Chotomoni Nibash – centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.

Eid-ul-Fitr is an Arabic word meaning "festival of breaking of the fast".

The festival marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk during the holy month.

On the Eid day morning, usually, Muslim devotees gather at mosques and prayer venues to perform Eid prayers and greet each other.
