The jewellery created by Shokti is a monument to the creativity of the founder and designer, Anika.

She is an avid admirer of traditional arts and crafts and was motivated to establish a brand that would perfectly integrate her interests in traditional craftsmanship, art, and architecture.

The path toward establishing Shokti was filled with obstacles and required unwavering effort, commitment, and persistence.

Shokti creates jewellery with a seamless fusion of contemporary design elements and traditional clay patterns, creating pieces that are both unique and enthralling to the eye.

Shokti draws inspiration from the rich cultural legacy, particularly the centuries-old tradition of terracotta, which has been a significant component in Bengali handicrafts. The use of terracotta as a material for jewellery-making demonstrates the innovation and resourcefulness of Bengali artists and craftsmen. Terracotta has been utilized to create a variety of items, including pots, lamps, and jewellery, due to its adaptability and sustainability, making it a significant component of Bengali culture and history.

The combination of the beauty of terracotta with the modern architectural design elements of Shokti's jewellery serves to further enrich the Bengali cultural legacy through its uniqueness.

Hurdles to Success

Anika found it difficult to manage her academics with her expanding business, but she remained committed to her goals. She worked on clay sculptures on the weekends, putting her everything into each one. Her family started to see her achievement and her dedication to her profession as her business flourished. For her, every piece she created was a labour of love.

Anika had no professional expertise in designing or creating jewellery, but she was driven to pursue her ambition. She devoted many hours to learning new methods and materials, experimenting with various approaches, and refining her craft via trial and error. Anika was motivated by her love and passion for the art, even if it was a lengthy and sometimes discouraging process.

Anika was forced to improvise while working with what she had because she lacked a suitable studio or workstation. She converted a side of her bedroom into a temporary workshop where she made jewellery out of inexpensive supplies and equipment. She overcame challenges by being committed and tenacious, and her efforts eventually paid off. She steadily started to develop a devoted following as her jewellery gained notoriety and attention and turn Shokti into the brand name it is today.

She said: "It's never easy to follow your dreams, but everyone should try within their limits and hope for the best. You never know where your passion and dedication will take you, but it's worth taking the risk and seeing where it leads. And if you stay true to yourself and your vision, anything is possible."

Namesake

The significance of the online jewellery store's name, Shokti, cannot be overstated, as it embodies the idea of strength. Taking inspiration from the Panchamahabhutas - the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space as preached by the Yogic philosophy - the founder of Shokti has ingeniously incorporated these elements into her creative artwork.

Additionally, clay, the fundamental substance used for crafting pieces of jewellery, contains characteristics that symbolize the earth element. The earth element, which is associated with security, rootedness, and nurturing, is strongly expressed through the clay used in the jewellery-making process.

The skilful blending of these elements into the jewellery pieces by the creator imbues them with deeper meanings that not only satisfy aesthetic sensibilities but also embody the essence of the earth element. Such unique fusion produces jewellery pieces that are not only visually stunning but also rich in symbolic significance.

Empowering and Eco-friendly

The jewellery store's philosophy is to inspire women by giving them one-of-a-kind, sustainably made jewellery, and the name Shokti is the ideal reflection of that mission. In the thoughts of the designer, jewellery ought to be more than just a piece of trendy item. Shokti stands apart in a sea of conventional jewellery retailers thanks to the philosophy that permeates every item of jewellery it makes.

Shokti as a brand reflects Anika's passion for yogic traditions and the idea of panchamahabhutas in every way. The jewellery pieces incorporate the characteristics of the earth's elements, which makes them not only distinctive and exquisite but also nurturing and rooted. The store's founder's dedication to ecological and social accountability further strengthens its guiding principles and makes it a top pick for ethical shoppers.

The vision also conveys a dedication to sustainability and ethical business practices. She is minimizing the negative effects of transportation by utilizing locally sourced mud in addition to assisting neighbourhood businesses.

Crafting Future

Anika has enormous hopes for her business as she increasingly envisions the days ahead. She is focused on building her own physical jewellery store while she plans the future of Shokti. This would not only give her a suitable workstation, but it will also let her communicate personally with clients and display her distinctive work. She has even bigger goals now that Shokti is becoming more and more successful; she wants to expand her brand globally.

"I want people all over the world to experience the beauty and tradition of terracotta through my jewellery," she says. "I want to create a movement, to show people that tradition and modernity can coexist, that the old can be made new again."
