Eminent people including senior journalists and nutritionists emphasized on ensuring good governance of nutrition to reach the goal of sustainable development.
At a fellowship certificate awarding ceremony for journalists on nutrition governance at the Daily Star Centre in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Tuesday, they said that it is important for the media to play a more effective role in this regard, according to a press release.
Media policy-making and editorial staff, and development personalities participated in the event, led by the European Union-funded international development agency Concern Worldwide, on the “Collective Responsibility, Action and Accountability for Improved Nutrition” project.
Bangladesh National Nutrition Council (BNNC) provided strategic support in this regard.
Crests and certificates were awarded to 10 journalists participating in the fellowship on nutrition governance at the event.

Bangladesh Country Director of Concern Worldwide Manish Kumar Agarwal presided over the program.
Sabuj Yunus of Samakal, Reaz Ahmad of Dhaka Tribune, Zahid Nawaz Khan of Channel I, Kajal Ghosh of Manab Zamin, among others, participated in the discussion moderated by Somashte Director Mir Masroor Zaman.
Besides, Meher Nigar Bhuiyan, program manager of the European Union's Resilient Livelihood Program and Imranul Haque of Concern Worldwide spoke on various aspects of nutrition governance.
The training module on Journalism in Nutrition Governance was unveiled at the event.

They added that good nutrition governance is mainly related to the policy and strategic aspects of the overall nutrition system. Various ministries have specific programs in this regard.
There is an opportunity for the media to work closely at how far the benefits of these programs are reaching the people and what are the challenges of the programs. In addition, mass media can play a leading role in spreading nutritional concepts, the speakers added.
