Quader: Metro rail Agragaon-Motijheel segment to be opened by November

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said he hopes the metro rail's (MRT Line-6) Agragaon-Motijheel section will be opened to traffic by November.

"The work on metro rail is progressing fast and is nearing completion... We will be able to complete the work of MRT Line-6 this year," the minister said while talking to reporters after a signing ceremony on the Kewatkhali bridge construction project in Mymensingh at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Besides, the construction of the elevated expressway up to Tejgaon will be completed by the current year, UNB quoted him as saying.

“To that end, our work is progressing fast. I want to give another good news to the nation on Pohela Boishakh that in June, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction of 100 more bridges in a day,” added Quader.

The minister said 100 double-decker electric AC buses will be added to the BRTC's fleet in November.

Of the buses, 80 will ply Dhaka roads and the rest will be operated in the port city of Chittagong.

Acknowledging that the Eid journey "is a challenge for us," Quader said the sufferings of homebound people will remain at a tolerable level this time.
