A general diary has been filed with Shahbagh police after organizers of Mongol Shobhajatra reportedly received a letter threatening an attack on the event during the Pohela Boishakh celebrations on Friday.
Nur Mohammad, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Abatahi Rahman, an organizer of the event, filed the GD on Tuesday night, said the OC.
According to the statement of the GD, the organizers found the threat note attached to a chair when they were supervising the colouring work on the west side wall of the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University.
The letter said there would be an attack at any time on Mongol Shobhajatra on the day of Pohela Boishakh.
Police are investigating the incident, said the OC.
Preparations are going on in full swing at Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts for a colourful and vibrant Mongol Shobhajatra, a mass procession that takes place at dawn on the first day of the Bangla New Year in Bangladesh.
Every year, on April 14 (Bangla New Year), students of the faculty hold Mongol Shobhajatra, which got recognition from Unesco as an intangible cultural heritage in 2016.
