Dr Zafrullah’s body to be kept at Shaheed Minar Thursday for final tribute

The body of Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and a freedom fighter, will be taken at the Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday morning so that people from all strata can pay their last respect. 

The body will be kept there from 10am to 1pm.

The valiant freedom fighter will be given guard of honour at the Shaheed Minar, said Gonoshasthaya Kendra Chairperson Alfatun Nesa Maya at a press briefing on Wednesday. 

Later, his body will be taken to Suhrawardy Udyan where his first namaz-e-janaza will be held.

The second nama-e-janaza will be held at Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Savar on Friday after Jumma prayer.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on Thursday.

The body is now kept in Birdem Hospital's morgue.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury breathed his last aged 81 at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital late Tuesday.

Zafrullah was transported to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, after becoming dangerously ill on April 5.

A medical board comprised of notable physicians was established on April 7 for his treatment.

He was put on life support on Monday after his condition deteriorated.

The noted physician had also been politically active for the past few years, although he was relatively inactive in politics this year.

He leaves behind his wife, son, daughter and scores of well-wishers.
