Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said the people of Bangladesh are in a much better condition than citizens of many other countries, considering the global financial situation.
"No one in England is allowed to purchase more than three tomatoes; Germany no longer has the funds to purchase oil. Inflation in Bangladesh is 9% whereas it is 35% in Pakistan. Despite the suffering of the people, considering the global situation, the people of Bangladesh are doing well," he said while speaking as the chief guest at an event in Rangpur.
The government is selling essentials through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh to the poor at subsidized prices, with subsidies reaching Tk700-800 crore per month. “Now there is no wailing among people during the holy month of Ramadan.”
"If the global situation improves, people will feel more relief. So we have to be patient," the minister added.
Tipu Munshi distributed cheques for Tk10,000 to 29 journalists of Rangpur as the PM's special financial aid to support them in overcoming the hardships faced by them during the Covid-19 pandemic.
