Motorcycles will be allowed to operate on all roads and highways of Bangladesh during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, except for Padma Bridge, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
“Motorcycles are allowed to cross the Padma River on ferries,” he said at a meeting at BRTA headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.
The minister also urged authorities to set up separate toll plazas for motorcycles on other routes.
The Awami League leader also informed in the meeting that filling stations will operate 24 hours a day for five days before and seven days after Eid.
The road from Elenga to Sirajganj, and northern Bogra will be operational to ease traffic congestion during the Eid trips, the minister added.
Mentioning that Gazipur is the first priority, the Road Transport and Bridges minister gave instructions to ensure that the roads of the BRT project are usable.
The minister also said in the meeting that 100 electric buses will run in Dhaka on October to November.
Motorcycles were banned on the Padma Bridge following a fatal road crash the very day the bridge was opened to traffic on June 26 last year.
