Bangladesh Railway has announced that no passengers will be allowed to enter railway stations without a ticket ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
They have also put restrictions on travelling on the roof of trains.
Bangladesh Railway Police and Bangladesh Railway Security Force have been instructed to implement the two decisions and ensure the passengers a smooth journey during the Eid holidays.
Bangladesh Railway has decided to sell train tickets online from April 7.
Dhaka Railway Police Super Alowan Hossain said: "Since 100% of the train tickets are being sold online this time, passengers should be aware and buy tickets in advance. No one will be allowed to enter the station without a ticket. Moreover, 25% of standing ticket passengers can enter the station. They too have to go through strict checking.”
“There are boundaries at the airport and Joydevpur station. Access control will not be much of a problem at this station. However, both sides of Tongi station are completely open. As a result, it can be a bit challenging for us to control access to that place. But since all the tickets are online, the counters will not be crowded. Moreover, no passenger will be allowed to climb on the train's roof,” he further said.
A team headed by Bangladesh Railway Director General Kamrul Ahsan and Ministry of Railways Secretary Humayun Kabir visited sites from Dhaka airport to Joydevpur station on Saturday.
Bangladesh Railway Additional Director General (Operation) Sardar Shahadat Ali, Dhaka Divisional Railway Manager Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, and others were also present.
