Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League burnt the effigy of Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, accusing him of publishing fabricated news.
They burnt the effigy at the main gate of Jahangirnagar University on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 4pm on Friday.
They also demanded the arrest of Matiur Rahman.
JU Chhatra League unit President Aktaruzzaman Sohel said that instead of highlighting the truth, a false thing has been highlighted in front of everyone.
Dhaka Tribune“All you journalist brothers should stay away from highlighting this false thing. Don't confuse the nation. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to make the country free from hunger and poverty. I hope you will spread this positive news among us,” he said.
A case was filed against the daily Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman under the Digital Security Act (DSA) early Thursday.
Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed assistant cameraman, and unnamed others were also accused in the case filed with Ramna police station at 2am on Thursday over an article published on March 26, according to media reports.
