The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Thursday warned that action will be taken under the Consumer Rights Act if anyone manipulates the prices of clothes during shopping for Eid-ul-Fitr.
The directorate said this in a discussion with traders of different clothing brands at its office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman said if there is any irregularity in any market, it would be recommended that the market committee be voided.
He urged the sales staff of clothing stores to be more respectful to customers.
“The arrogant behaviour of salespeople is not acceptable in any way,” he said, adding that these kinds of behaviours are not accepted in developing countries.
“If the demand for a particular style increases, one should be careful not to skyrocket its price overnight,” he urged.
The government department also said it will send letters to market committees for monitoring.
Periodic meetings will be held with garment traders across the country, the directorate added.
