Suraiya Akhter Keya, the first wife of Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan, who is accused in a police officer murder case, is from Garadob village of Gangni upazila in Meherpur.
Arav trapped her into marriage identifying himself as the son of the owner of Apon Jewellers. Later, they got separated.
They had eloped in Keya's relative's motorcycle which caused a friction between him and Keya's family.
On the other hand, Arav broke ties with his wife Keya after the police inspector's murder. His first wife has also become an accused in the police inspector Mamun murder case.
Sources said that Keya passed SSC in 2013 while living with her mother in Dhaka. She was admitted to the pathology department of MATS College in Dhaka.
In college, she developed a relation with Arav whom she knew as Apon. Keya went to visit her village in 2014. A day later, Arav came to Keya's house with a friend. The next day, they fled on the motorcycle, got married and settled in Dhaka.
Keya's uncle Kamruzzaman of Garadob village said: “We showed him enough respect as her friend. But we didn't know earlier what a big fraud he is. He identified himself as the owner of Apon Jewellers. Besides, he took away my favourite motorcycle.”
“After he denied to return the motorcycle, I filed a GD (general diary) at Gangni police station. He pressured me with some leaders of Meherpur to withdraw the GD. Arav introduced himself as the president of Dhaka University Chhatra League to those leaders and asked them to put pressure on me,” he added.
Regarding Keya, he said: “He had destroyed her life. She is an accused in the police murder case because of being with Aarav.”
He wished the people concerned to give Keya a chance to return to a beautiful life through proper investigation.
Keya's father Abul Kalam Azad said he married Monwara Begum in 1996. Everything was fine until he got arrested in the murder of his brother over a feud regarding ownership of land in 2000. Keya was three at that time. She would sometimes visit her father in jail with her mother.
However, as time went by Azad's relation with his wife began to deteriorate. He came out of jail in 2011. He came to know that his wife had divorced him, but did not give any documents. Even if he wanted to contact his daughter, he could not. Monwara, on the other hand, remarried a man from Ujalpur village. Later, they moved to Dhaka.
Keya passed SSC in 2013. Her mother admitted her to MATS College in Dhaka against her father's consent. Keya did a diploma in medicine there. Since then, Azad has no contact with his daughter.
Azad also said: “A few days after being admitted to college in Dhaka, I heard that my daughter was involved with a businessman named Apon. He is the owner of Apon Jewellers and they got married.”
“In 2014 and 2015, she visited her aunt's house in Garadob village with her husband. They lived a luxurious life then. But I came to know through different sources that her husband is involved in criminal activities. A few days later, the news came that he was the accused in a police murder case,” Azad added.
He also said that later Arav alias Apon had to go to jail. After bail they got separated. He was released on bail in 2022 after spending several years in prison. Later, Keya got married to a young man named Shahin of Amzhupi village of Sadar upazila. Soon after that she moved to Malaysia with her husband.
Gangni police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said: “Inquiries are being made about Suraiya Akhter Keya. We learned that she was on bail in the police murder case. However, it is not yet clear where she is actually.”
Arav Khan, a gold trader, came to the limelight following media reports that cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was visiting Dubai to attend the inauguration of his jewellery shop in Dubai.
Consequently, the police launched an investigation into the matter. According to police sources, Arav Khan started a gold business in Dubai with financial help from a former senior police officer.
Police inspector Mamun was killed in Banani on July 7, 2018. Three days after this incident, his brother became filed a murder case. After the investigation, on March 31, 2019, the police filed a charge sheet in court against eight people including Rahmat Ullah and Rabiul Islam.
