University Grant Commission (UGC) is going to arrange a uniform entry test for the academic year 2023-2024 with all the universities in Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the UGC on Monday regarding the error-free and smooth completion of the admission examination for the academic year 2022-2023 in the cluster system.
According to the UGC press release, 22 general and science and technology universities of the country, including Jagannath and Islamic universities, will participate in the cluster admission test in the academic year 2022-2023.
In the meeting, the authorities under cluster universities were instructed to take the admission test and complete the admission process and start the classes quickly.
Along with this, organizers have been advised to be careful to make the admission test process easy and student friendly and make this cluster admission unique.
It was informed in the meeting that a uniform admission test will be organized in all universities of the country in the academic year 2023-2024.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah presided over the meeting.
In the meeting, the existing crisis of cluster system admissions and possible solutions were discussed.
It was also discussed how to overcome last year's complications in admissions and how to make admissions easier and student-friendly this year.
In the meeting, Kazi Shahidullah said: "Country's people have given us warm greetings for organizing the admission test in the cluster system. They say it's a good admission method. There are some problems in taking the exam in the new system, but there is no chance to get out of it.”
Mentioning that the cluster admission test is a good and universally accepted method, he urged the vice-chancellors and the admission concerned to be sincere.
Prof Muhammad Alamgir, member of the UGC and convenor of the cluster admission examination organizing committee, said that 80% of the public universities participated in the cluster admission examination. The government has decided to organize a unique admission test in all universities from next year.
Professor Alamgir urged the admissions concerned of the cluster universities to take the admission test and start the classes in a short time.
He said: "The Ministry of Education has sent a letter to the UGC regarding the uniform admission test. A decision will be taken after discussing with the universities step by step about conducting a uniform examination from next year.”
