Police to monitor markets during Ramadan

Additional Inspector General of Police (Crime and Operations) Atiqul Islam has directed all field-level police officers to monitor markets strictly during the upcoming Ramadan to prevent a rise in commodity prices.

"No one should create any untoward situation by spreading rumours about price hikes and food insufficiency. Therefore, necessary action has to be taken," he said in a meeting on Tuesday at the police headquarters.

Police commissioners of all metropolitan cities, range DIGs and district superintendents of police joined the meeting virtually.

Information about the overall crime situation as of January was presented in the meeting.

The meeting emphasized taking precautionary measures and increasing police activity so that no group can engage in any conspiracies by exploiting communal issues.

District and highway police were instructed to jointly perform duties to prevent extortions and ensure the transportation of essential goods during Ramadan.

Additional IGP Atiqul Islam also instructed the police force to make preparations starting now to make Eid trips of homebound people smooth.

He also called for the removal of unauthorized construction sites on the side of roads and appropriate action against unfit vehicles.
