Three students of Rajshahi University with eye injuries have been sent to National Institute of Ophthalmology in the capital for advanced treatment.
Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Asabul Haque confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune.
The injured students are Mesbahul Islam Sayem of Persian Language and Literature department, Al Amin of Law department and Alimul Sakib of Marketing department.
They were sent to Dhaka around 6am on Tuesday, said the proctor.
All the procedures regarding their admission at the hospital were completed on Monday evening.
Asabul Haque said that he visited the injured students who are undergoing treatment at the hospital to monitor their condition. Many there are now free from danger. Many have returned after treatment.
However, some students suffered eye injuries during the clash. Three of them received critical injuries.
So they are being sent to Dhaka for better treatment following doctor's advice. Their treatment will be funded by the university administration, he said.
A total of 92 students were injured in the clash incidents and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Many of them recovered from their injuries and left the hospital on Monday.
Director of the hospital Brigadier General FM Shamim Ahmed said that six RU students were admitted to the hospital with eye injuries on Saturday night. They were shot in their eyes that night. The treatment of three of them is no longer possible at the hospital.
These three students have “Vitriol Retinal Injury” in their eyes. It has been advised to send them to Dhaka for better treatment, he added.
One of these three injured students is Alimul Saqib, a third-year student of the Marketing department.
His eyes were injured by tear gas cells and rubber bullets fired by the police. That night he was admitted to ward number 25 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He was shot in the eye that night, said the RMCH director.
Similarly, Mesbahul Islam Sayem and Al Amin are also being sent to Dhaka due to retinal problems.
Meanwhile, Rakibul Hasan, a fourth-year physics student, who was in the intensive care unit (ICU) of RMCH, was shifted to the general ward on Monday afternoon.
Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, ICU in-charge of the hospital said that Rakibul's condition has improved.
Now he is free from danger. He can speak without oxygen. He was shifted to Ward 8 of the hospital around 2pm on Monday.
