The fourth convocation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) will be held at Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall on Monday.
The president and chancellor of the university Md Abdul Hamid will preside over the event, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed will deliver the welcome speech.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will speak as special guests. Prof Rajvardhan Azad, chairman of University Service Commission, Bihar, India will be the convocation speaker.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion of the convocation.
President Hamid said: “Since its establishment in 1998, BSMMU has been playing an important role in providing higher education and research on medical science in the country. There is a need for further expansion of medical research in the country for new research and innovation in the field of medicine and its application in public health services. I hope that the university will play a more proactive and effective role in this regard.”
Besides, PM Hasina said: “In 1998, our government established the country's first medical university Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University to develop higher education in medical science in the country. This university has been working relentlessly to promote and develop higher medical education, higher research in the health sector and ensure world-class medical care.”
