Gulistan blast: 17 bodies handed over to families

The bodies of the 17 victims who were killed in Tuesday afternoon's explosion at a seven-storey building in Dhaka's Gulistan have been handed over to their families till early Wednesday. 

Senior Assistant Commissioner Subir Kumar Das confirmed the matter.

He said that the bodies were handed over to the families till 2am following applications of the families of the victims.

Subir Kumar also said: “Three people are reported still missing. It has not yet been confirmed whether they were injured or killed.”

Inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said that 19 injured people are taking treatment at DMCH. 

SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute said that so far 10 injured people are undergoing treatment there. 

The explosion at a seven-storey building on Tuesday afternoon has so far claimed the lives of 17 people.

The deceased were Mominul Islam, 38, his wife Nodi Begum, 36, Md Suman, 21, Ishak Mridha, 35, Mansur Hossain, 40, Md Ismail, 42, Alamin, 23, Rahat, 18, Mainuddin, 50, Nazmul Hossain, 25, Obaidul Hasan Babul, 55, Abu Zafar Siddique, 34, Akriti Begum, 70, Md Idris Mir, 60, Hridoy, 20, Nurul Islam Bhuiyan, 55, and Md Siam, 19.

Officials fear the death toll will likely increase as many of those rescued are critically injured.
