A Dhaka tribunal on Sunday framed charges against former Bangladesh national team cricketer Al-Amin Hossain in a case filed on charges of torturing his wife, Ishrat Jahan, and demanding dowry from her.
Judge Mafroja Pervin of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 framed the charges rejecting the discharge petition submitted by the accused.
The tribunal also set April 9 for recording testimonies of witnesses in the case.
Judge Mafroja Pervin read out the charges and asked the accused whether he is guilty or not. The accused pleaded not guilty and asked for justice.
Ishrat filed the case against Al-Amin on September 2, 2022, at Mirpur model police station, and investigating officer Inspector Sohel Rana on February 2, 2023 pressed charges against him.
According to the case documents, Al-Amin and Ishrat Jahan got married on December 26, 2012, and they became parents of two children. Al-Amin would regularly beat his wife demanding Tk20 lakh in dowry. He threw her out of home a couple of times as Ishrat's father failed to manage the money.
But Al-Amin allegedly kept on torturing her. Finally, on August 25, 2022, Al-Amin started punching and kicking her and threatened to divorce her and file a fake case against her. Ishrat's uncle took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.
