CEC: Parties' firm stance on polls-time govt dangerous

The two major parties' firm stance on election-time government is dangerous for Bangladesh, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said.

The results of the national polls would be affected without the participation of the major parties, he said after meeting with the election observers on Thursday.

The CEC called on the government to be more responsible in bringing everyone to the polls.

In addition, CEC Awal hopes that a political compromise can be reached within the next few months.

Among the observers were former prime minister of Nepal Jhala Nath Khanal, Founder and Managing Director of GBP International Volker Friedrich, Founder and President of Global Village Connection Jackson Dupka, Election Monitoring Forum Chairman Prof Mohammad Abed Ali, DUET Vice-Chancellor and Election Monitoring Forum Director Prof Dr Habibur Rahman and Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET Professor Dr Abdul Jabbar.
