At least six people were injured as a clash occurred among three ruling party associate organizations over laying flowers at the Shaheed Minar in Manikganj on Tuesday.
The clash spread panic among the students, parents, and heads of various educational institutions, including those who came to lay flowers at the martyrs' altar. Many left without giving flowers.
According to police and local sources, leaders of the district Awami League and associate organizations came to lay flowers at the Shaheed Minar around 9am. After giving flowers on behalf of the Awami League, when the name of a faction of the Sramik League was announced, the other side blocked it. It triggered an altercation and led to a clash that left six people injured.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Rauf Sarkar said police brought the situation under control.
District unit Awami League General Secretary Advocate Abdus Salam expressed regret over the incident.
