The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday said that they are going to start the intercity ticketing system of railways through NID verification from March 1.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said this at a press briefing at the Railway Bhaban.
He said: “Bangladesh Railways has made it mandatory for every passenger to complete registration or registration process by verifying National Identity Card Number or Birth Certificate before purchasing intercity train ticket.”
“Bangladesh Railway is going to include three services in the ticketing system with the aim of preventing black market of tickets, making it easier to collect fares from ticketless travellers along with fines,” he added.
Bangla TribuneSeven conditions have been imposed for the purchase of Bangladesh Railway tickets.
These include firstly, passengers aged 12-18 years can purchase tickets separately/individually through railway account registered with parent's name and NID, or account registered with birth registration number and by uploading birth certificate. In such cases, the photocopy of the birth certificate must be carried during the journey to verify the relationship of the passenger with the name printed on the ticket.
Foreign nationals will complete registration by providing passport number and uploading passport photo.
No passenger can purchase intercity train ticket without successful NID/passport/birth registration verified registration.
Passenger must carry photocopy of own NID or birth registration certificate or passport/photo ID card while travelling.
If the identity card does not match the passenger information printed on the ticket, the passenger will be accused of traveling without a ticket and action will be taken as per the prevailing laws of Bangladesh Railways.
Passengers can complete the registration process in Bangladesh Railway system through National Identity Card/Birth Registration/Passport from February 16, 2023.
Lastly, a help desk will be set up at the railway stations of the divisional cities of the country and at the starting stations of the inter-city trains to assist the public in the registration process.
