Chhatra League leader sues journo under DSA

Barisal city unit Bangladesh Chhatra League convener Raiz Ahmed Manna has filed a case against two people including a journalist and video content creator under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The case was filed in the Barisal Cyber Tribunal on Wednesday afternoon, Court Bench Assistant Nurul Islam Kakon said on Thursday.

He added that Judge Golam Farooq accepted the complaint, and has ordered the officer-in-charge of Kawnia police station to investigate the allegations and submit a report by April 10.

The defendants are Jasim Zia, senior reporter and video content creator of Daily Kirtankhola in Barisal, and one Kawsar Hossain.

The video creator and journalist Jasim Zia has a Facebook page named “Swadesh” where he posted a video with false, and fabricated information at the instigation of some local people on January 25.

Jasim Zia posted a video on his Facebook page titled "Chhatra League leader took possession of land by paying Tk56 lakh." claiming Raiz Ahmed Manna and his family committed extortion, land grabbing, and embezzlement.

However, Manna has disputed these claims and stated that the allegations made against him and his family members are false and unrealistic.

The case statement added that the plaintiff and his family members have been disrespected as the news was shared on social media.

He also said that the video where says his father occupied a building, ignoring the movement of the local people is also false.

In this regard, journalist Jasim Zia said that the video was made with the statements of all concerned and has evidence to back it up.
