The ruling Awami League will hold a parliamentary committee meeting on Tuesday to finalize the party's candidates for the president's post.
The information was revealed in a press release sent from the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday.
According to the press release, Awami League's seventh parliamentary party meeting will be chaired by Awami League's parliamentary party leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
President Abdul Hamid's term will end on April 24.
Nomination papers have to be submitted to the Election Commission for the post of president on February 12.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized the next day. If there are more than one candidate, members of parliament will elect the next president by voting in the National Assembly on February 19.
Members of parliament have to be supporters and proponents of the presidential candidate.
The opposition Jatiya Party has already said that it will not field a candidate. Since Awami League has a single majority in the parliament, the candidates will be elected from them.
Therefore, apart from finalizing the party candidate, the proponents and supporters will also be finalized in the Awami League parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.
Before this, the sixth meeting of the parliamentary committee of Awami League was held on January 12.
