Law Minister Anisul Huq on Friday said the Awami League and the Sheikh Hasina-led government have established democracy in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh is a democratic country. Any party can carry out its political activities here. Our government has no objection to this. We believe in democracy,” he said.
He made these remarks in response to questions from journalists at Akhaura railway station on the way to Kasba via his constituency, Akhaura, in the morning.
Regarding the BNP's demand of holding the general election under a caretaker government, he said: “Bangladesh has a constitution. The constitution has clear directives about how the national election will be held. The next parliamentary polls will be held as per the constitution.”
Local Awami League leaders and activists were present along with district and upazila administration officials.
