Bangladeshi teen rescued from empty cargo shipped to Malaysia

A Bangladeshi teenager was rescued from an empty container shipped to Malaysia's Klang port from Chittagong.

The Klang Port Authority on Tuesday rescued him from the Marshall Islands-flagged Vessel Integra. The port officials learned about the incident on Wednesday evening, said SM Faisal, assistant manager of the ship's agent in Bangladesh, Continental Traders (BD) Limited.

The ship's local representative initially found that he is a 15-year-old Bangladeshi.

The MV Integra, carrying 1,337 TEUS containers, left Chittagong port on January 12. The ship arrived in Malaysia's Klang Port on Monday.

The teenager was rescued after hearing him screaming from an empty container.

According to sources, the teenager was rescued alive but sick. He was later sent to a hospital in Kelang.

Shipping line sources confirmed the information, however, the Chittagong Port authority declined to comment.

In October 2022, police discovered a decomposing body of a young man from a container carried from Chittagong to Malaysia's Penang port.
