11 organizations condemn BNP leaders’ statements on 1971

A total of 11 professional and social organizations have condemned two BNP leaders' statements regarding the 1971 Liberation War and the announcement of the amendment of the constitution.

The organizations also demanded the withdrawal of the statements in a joint press release issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, two central leaders of BNP, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Abdul Awal Mintoo used the word “By-chance” along with the history of the Great Liberation War in a program in the capital on Friday and announced the change in the constitution.

In the statement, they said Bengali people achieved independence after a long struggle under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

With this history, the use of the word “By-chance” is not acceptable, they said.

The BNP leaders' announcement that they will change the constitution is also unacceptable, said the statement.

BNP's connection with the anti-liberation evil forces was proved again through the statements, it said.

The organizations warned to build a strong resistance against the anti-liberation force if BNP leaders do not withdraw this statement immediately.

The signatories of the statement are Prof Kamrul Hasan Khan, secretary general of Bangladesh Peshajibi Somonnoy Council, Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, president of Dhaka University Teachers Association.
