Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina continues her struggle for the economic emancipation of the country and is moving forward with a plan to make it a developed and prosperous nation.
“The Almighty Allah created two persons for Bangladesh's liberty…Bangabandhu has brought the independence (for us). This legacy will never die. Sheikh Hasina continues her struggle for the Bangladesh's economic emancipation and is moving forward with a plan to make it a developed and prosperous country,” he said.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said these while addressing a meeting, organized by the ruling AL at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here, marking the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
In his welcome address, Quader said the Awami League (AL) has a pledge to the people that Bangladesh must be built as ‘Sonar Bangla' and an ideal state dreamt by Bangabandhu.
“We will build ‘Smart Bangladesh' following the super highway of development under the leadership of pathfinder Sheikh Hasina. That is our promise,” he said.
Hoping that the per capita income of Bangladesh will reach US$ 4,000 in 2026, the AL general secretary said on Tuesday per capita income stands at US$ 2500.
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the latest report says Bangladesh is now the 35th economic power in the world. The way we are progressing, our per capita income will stand at US$ 4,000 in 2026,” he said.

“Do you remember the names of those who rehabilitated the killers of Bangabandhu and rewarded them and proclaimed the indemnity ordinance to give impunity to the killers?” he questioned.
The AL general secretary said BNP had killed democracy in Bangladesh, created one crore fake voters and siphoned off hundreds of crores of taka abroad and that is why BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman fled away to London after being convicted in graft cases.
“We cannot hand over the country to the BNP, which is a trusted resort of communalism and militancy. We cannot allow them to go to power,” he said.
Quader urged all to get ready to resist the BNP, which is the patron of militants and terrorists, as the next general election is approaching.
