An elephant died after being hit on the head by another elephant at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Sreepur, Gazipur.
The incident took place on December 22 last year at the elephant shed inside the park, Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury confirmed Monday morning.
A three-member investigative team had been formed following the post-mortem of the elephant.
Amir said that the elephant was 47-48 years old and physically very weak. After being hit by another elephant, the injured one died shortly after receiving severe injuries.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days. The exact cause of death of the elephant can be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report, he added.
He added that total nine elephants were present in the safari park. Of these, seven were male and two females. The dead elephant was a female.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, could not be reached for comments over the matter.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sreepur police station, said the park authorities filed a general diary (GD) in connection with the death of the elephant at the safari park.
