New Awami League committee pays tribute to Bangabandhu

The newly elected committee of the ruling Awami League paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths on his altar at Dhanmondi 32 on Sunday morning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was elected as president of the Awami League for the 10th consecutive time, while Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader – the party's second in command since 2016 – retained his role as general secretary for a third time, at the party's 22nd national council on Saturday.

There was no major shake-up in the party leadership as Sheikh Hasina opted to keep faith in the tried and tested leaders with the next general election on the horizon.
