A Bangladeshi youth was killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Patgram border in Lalmonirhat early Thursday.
The deceased is Shahadat Hossain, 28, son of Idris Ali of Auliarhat Gaibandhapara area of Srirampur union of the upazila. He was a shepherd by profession.
According to local sources, with the help of Indian cattle traders, some Bangladeshi herdsmen including Shahadat Hossain entered India through the Jagatber border. They were bringing cows through Modikalbari bridge area of Ashakbari village of Mathabhanga police station in Cooch Behar district, India.
At this time, members of the patrol team of BSF 169 Raninagar Battalion of Chuangarkhata Camp fired shots leaving Shahadat dead while the others managed to escape.
Idris Ali sought justice for his son's death.
Director of Lalmonirhat 61 BGB Battalion Lt Col Mir Hasan Shahriar Mahmud said: “The body was found 120 yards inside India from the border pillar. We are contacting the BSF to find out the details.”
