Buet students go to police to know cause of Fardin's death

Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet) went to the detective branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to learn details of the cause of death of their fellow Fardin Nur Parash on Thursday morning.

Forty students from the university went to the police after not being convinced that the cause of Fardin's death was suicide.

After leaving the DB office, Fardin's classmates told the media that after talking to the detectives, they felt that there were some gaps in the details of the incident.

They added that the DB told them they were still working on the case.

The detectives still haven't been able to find out if Fardin was alone or not when he fell on the river, the students said.

However, the intelligence officials told us an autorickshaw driver told them two people were dropped off. So, there was another person with him and the police will investigate those matters further, Fardin's classmates added.

Fardin's classmate Kamrul Hossain said: “They presented to us some information, which can be called circumstantial evidence. It may seem like a suicide but they could not give any concrete information about the suicide.”

The classmates said that they have decided to discuss the information they learnt from the DB office with the other students in the university and inform the media what they would do next.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (DB) Harun-or-Rashid said: “We investigated the matter of Fardin's death for 38 days. We have talked about the killing in the media several times before, including his mental health. Dropping his friend Bushra at Rampura, Fardin wandered around Dhaka alone. It was also reported earlier that he did not go to Chanpara.”

We have also interrogated the people Fardin had talked to over his phone, he added.

The police official said that there were no signs of injury or loss of possession which would suggest the incident to be murder.

No charges were found against Fardin's friend Bushra, the accused in the case. Harun said that the matter will be informed to the court.
