Police: BNP now free to use Naya Paltan office

There is nothing standing in the way of BNP leaders carrying out activities at their central office in Dhaka's Naya Paltan area, police have said.

“BNP senior leaders can go to the office to carry out their duties,” Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Division Hayatul Islam Khan told reporters at his office on Sunday.

An unwanted situation took place last Wednesday surrounding the opposition's Dhaka rally, the officer said, adding that several cases were also filed in this regard.

“The central office was closed for only one day as it was a crime scene,” he added.

When asked about the barricades near the office, he said: "We got different information from different sources, and hence some check posts were installed for security purposes.”

However, they have already been removed, he added.

Traffic movement has returned to normal levels in Dhaka after there were only a few vehicles plying the capital's streets due to the BNP's rally on Saturday.

The roads of the capital were teeming with pedestrians, commuters and public transport from Sunday morning.
