In the month of November, 643 people were killed and 826 were injured in 586 road accidents in the country, according to a report by Bangladesh Passengers' Welfare Association.
At the same time, 51 people were killed and four were injured in 64 accidents on railway tracks, added the report published on Tuesday.
The report was signed by the Secretary General of the organization, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury.
According to the report, maritime accidents killed 15 people and injured 10 while seven went missings.
In addition, 668 accidents occurred on road, rail and sea collectively that caused 709 deaths and 840 injuries.
Some 60.58% of the total accidents occurred on regional highways while 27.47% happened on national highways and 4.95% on feeder roads, the report found.
Among the accidents, 5.63% occurred in Dhaka and 0.17% occurred in Chittagong.
Around 1.19% of accidents happened in railway crossing areas, the report said.
Among the victims, 284 were drivers, 87 pedestrians, 85 women, 89 children, 50 transport workers, 74 students, 23 political party leaders, 15 law enforcement personnel and two NSI members.
Of the vehicles involved in the accidents, 30.47% were motorcycles, 25.37% trucks-pickup-covered vans and lorries, 11.81% buses, 13.88% battery-powered rickshaws and easy bikes, 9.50% Nachimans-Karimons, 6.72% cars-jeeps-microbuses and 2.66% CNG-powered auto-rickshaws.
Of these accidents, 59.89% occurred when cars ran over people, 17.57% were head-on collisions, 11.26% occurred when drivers lost control and their vehicles fell into ditches, 1.19% were train-vehicle collisions and 9.89% were caused by other reasons.
According to the observation of Bangladesh Passengers' Welfare Association, dangerous overtaking, reckless speeding, unfit vehicles, lack of footpaths on roads or unoccupied footpaths, sudden departure of vehicles from feeder roads at rail crossings and on highways, increasing number of small vehicles, lack of service lanes on various national and regional highways are causing an increase in the number of accidents across Bangladesh.
