Kaikaus: 50,000C withdrawn in panic being redeposited to banks

The customers who panicked and withdrew Tk50,000 crore from the banks following rumours of a liquidity crisis, have started to redeposit their money again, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus has said.

“They have started redepositing the funds after realizing their mistake,” he said while speaking at an event organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).

Regarding IMF loan, the principal secretary said that the banks never hesitate to hand out loans to good customers.

“A regular delegation of IMF visited Bangladesh a few months ago, and offered to give a loan as there was an issue of the availability of dollars. Bangladesh also agreed to take that IMF loan,” he added.

Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury said: “People are afraid to keep their money in banks, as they ask for an income tax certificate.”
