A three- day photo exhibition, titled “The struggle for dignified livelihood”, was held in the capital with a discussion on gender-based violence in the workplace.
The exhibition, which concluded on Friday, was arranged by a European Union co-funded project implemented by Nagorik Uddyog, Wave Foundation, BLAST, Bandhu Social Welfare Society, and Christian Aid.
The exhibition was held at the Nalinikanta Bhattashali Gallery at the national museum in Dhaka.
Asaduzzaman Noor, member of parliament and a prominent cultural figure, was present at the discussion as chief guest.
A play aimed at generating awareness was staged by Aditi Theatre Group from Khulna.
The chief guest, in his comments, said that the government and various non-government organizations have taken initiatives to reduce the sufferings of the minority communities in the country.
"To eliminate gender-based violence, we need to integrate education and culture," he further said.
Sisti Tudu from the Mahali community said: "Bamboo crafting is our livelihood but due to the popularity of plastic in this era, we no longer make livable wages through it. We seek government assistance for our community."
Md Kamruzzaman, director general, Bangladesh National Museum, Susmita Paik, deputy director, National Human Rights Commission and Mohsin Ali, executive director, WAVE Foundation were among the special guests at the event.
